Stop Waste from Becoming Rubbish

Client: West Berkshire Council

What happens to the remains of your packed lunch or picnic when you put them in the bin?

This hexagonal exterior display describes the recycling processes for five materials from a typical packed lunch box:

  • plastic bottles
  • drinks cans
  • paper and card
  • food waste
  • plastic bags

Labeled holes on each side of the display allow visitors to ‘post’ their rubbish into individual bins located inside the structure. These are then collected by the Council’s contractor on a regular basis.

Each side of the display features informative graphics explaining how each ‘waste’ item can be recycled or composted. Eye-catching, larger-than-life models of the items add an element of fun and help to draw visitors to the display.

The display is next to the playground and picnic area at Thatcham Nature Discovery Centre and has become popular with parents and children alike.

Banner Stands

We were subsequently asked to produce banner stands of each of the six graphic panels, for use by the Council’s recycling team.
